The Food Web!

Today in class (session 1), we got to watch a Bill Nye video, and if you have not seen a Bill Nye video, they are educational, yet hilarious. In the video we learned all about the food web. We learned that every living thing starts with plants. If you look at any food, you can trace it back to plants. Then after that, the video just got weird.

Breaking News at the Torrey Pines Hike!

Hey this is Julia and I have very sad news. Last weekend on Saturday two eighteen year olds. Where swimming in the ocean at the hike. The girlfriend swam out and was being sucked out. The boyfriend swam out and grabbed her. Then a huge wave came over them and the boyfriend went under and never came up. The girlfriend was fine. My mom hiked torrey pines on monday and saw all these people gathered. She asked what happened. A person we all know Pete, from the community center was the person my mom asked. She couldn't believe what she heard. I am just wondering why would some guy give his surf board to his girlfriend if he didn't know how to swim! They still have not found his body, and gave up the search a couple of days ago. It is a very sad story and this is Julia Domann saying be careful at the beach. Thank you

Barn owl found in San Marcos, CA

Have you heard the news that a man in San Marcos, CA found a Barn Owl mother and father nesting new eggs. Now, if you go to the sight that i will list at the bottom of the page, you can watch the owl family night and day, inside the owl box. The way that all of this works is that the "Barn Owl Box" has a camera installed inside the box so that we can watch the owls all day long. Two owlets have been born and the mother "Molly" has been sitting on the eggs night and day.

Creatures 600 ft Under the Ice!

Hi this is Julia with more exciting news:  Scientists find live creatures like shrimp and jellyfish underneath a thick sheet of ice! Scientists thought nothing could live 600 ft below ice with no sunlight. The only thing they thought that could live there were microbes. But they were WRONG! They lowered a video camera under the ice and found live creatures swimming around. The shrimp they found was the same type of shrimp you could find on your very own dinner plate! They think that the video taken will make scientists think differently about life in harsh enviorments. Scientists are asking many questions like were they trapped there? And the anwser is no. A scientists drilled a hole through the ice and saw water so they could swim anywhere they wanted to. They also asked why would they go there? How could there be a food source down there?!?!? Scientists are still trying to solve these mysterious questions. I am really excited to find put about how animals can live in these harsh places. Thanks for reading our blog!

Like Julia said, we had our first team challenge. some parts were challenging, and some parts were fairly easy. But luckily we came together, and worked as a team to get second place, and bring in eight points for our mileage charts.  Also, we got to choose our name for our team. we went through many names, until we came to the conclusion that we would be The Yellow Chipmunks! Thanks for reading.
